Peter Hickson is the principal of Global Materials Advisors, specialising in mine and commodity strategy and the impact of China, environment, climate change, energy, political and social drivers on supply-demand and pricing outcomes. This follows 20 years in the global finance industry, based in Hong Kong, London and Sydney heading up global materials and commodities research for UBS. During this time he specialized on China’s impact on commodities, visiting the country every year since 1997, witnessing first hand the fastest industrial and materials development ever and is currently researching a book on China and Commodities. This in turn followed 20 years in engineering and management for Rio Tinto, working in US, PNG and Australia. He is also an Advisory Director for TrafalgarCopley on global resources. He holds a Masters in Business Administration from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, a Bachelor of Mine Engineering (Hons) from the University of Sydney and is a Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.
